When Thoughts Won't Stop

Hello friends!
Does your mind never stay quiet?
Thoughts keep coming one after another.
You cannot stop them.
When you go to sleep, thoughts.
While working, thoughts.
Even when you want to rest, thoughts!
There is a solution to this problem.
But it is not about stopping thoughts!
The Problem
What happens when thoughts won't stop?
Our mind keeps running continuously.
Yesterday's mistakes.
Tomorrow's worries.
What others think about us.
Tasks to be done.
When all this comes together, our mind doesn't rest.
We try.
"I must stop these thoughts!"
But what happens?
Even more thoughts!
Because "I must stop thoughts" is also a thought, isn't it?
So what is the solution?
Drig Drishya Viveka - You Are Not Thoughts
Here is an important truth.
You are not thoughts.
You are the awareness that knows thoughts.
Our Vedanta calls this "Drig Drishya Viveka."
The distinction between the seer and the seen.
Let us understand this simply.
Imagine you are looking at a tree now.
You are aware of that tree.
But that tree is not you, is it?
You are the one seeing.
The tree is what is seen.
The same with thoughts.
You are aware of thoughts.
"Oh, I got this thought" - you say this.
Then who is seeing that thought?
Can a thought see itself?
No!
There must be a seer who sees the thought.
That seer is you.
You are the seer.
Thoughts are the seen.
That pure awareness is your true nature.
Thoughts are like clouds passing in the sky.
Whether clouds come or go, the sky remains the same.
You are that sky.
Eternal. Peaceful. Vast.
Resting in Awareness
What happens when we rest in this awareness?
Thoughts slow down.
They become gentle.
Because we stop fighting with them.
We stop holding onto them.
It's okay if thoughts are there!
They don't disturb us.
Because we don't identify with them.
It's like standing by the road watching vehicles.
Vehicles pass by.
But you don't jump into every vehicle!
Story - The Meditator and Friend
A small story to clarify this.
A man troubled by thoughts comes to his meditator friend.
"Friend, how do I stop these thoughts?
My mind doesn't stay quiet even for a moment!"
The meditator smiles and says.
"You are not thoughts.
You are the awareness that knows them.
Just watch. Don't fight."
The man understands.
He begins to practice.
Another day he meets the meditator excitedly.
"Friend! Your advice worked!
My mind is not racing now.
I am very peaceful!"
The meditator gently replies.
"That's good.
But remember one thing.
You are not that peace either.
You are the awareness of that peace.
Only then, true freedom."
Meditation - Resting in Awareness
Now let us all together rest in this awareness for two minutes.
Close your eyes.
Or keep a soft gaze.
Now notice.
What thoughts are in you?
Don't try to change them.
Simply notice.
Who is noticing these thoughts?
That noticer is you.
Rest in that awareness.
In that vast awareness.
In that peaceful awareness.
It's okay if thoughts come.
Let them pass.
You simply be like the sky.
Peacefully.
Vastly.
Freely.
Slowly open your eyes.
Friends.
Thoughts are not the problem.
Identifying with them is the problem.
You are not thoughts.
You are the pure awareness that knows thoughts.
Remember this truth.
Practice every day.

Stay peaceful.
Rest in awareness.
